1 〔行く; 来る〕 go; come; call on [upon] sb.

・さあ上野へ参りました. We have (now) arrived at Ueno.

・バスはいよいよ上野にやって参りました. The bus has arrived at our destination, Ueno.

・お車が参りました. Your car is at the door.

・明日また参ります. I will call again tomorrow.

・「料理はまだかね」「ただ今持って参ります」 “Say, isn't the meal ready?”―“I'll bring it to you now.”

・お客様にご理解いただけるよう今後とも努力して参ります. We shall do all we can to gain the understanding of our customers.

2 〔詣でる〕 visit [worship at] 《a temple》.

●神社に参る visit a shrine

・お墓に参る visit sb's grave.

3 〔負ける〕 be defeated; be beaten; go down for the count; 〔降参する〕 yield 《to…》; give in 《to…》; 〔物が圧力などのために〕 yield; give way.

●完全に参る be beaten hollow

・参ったと言う admit a defeat; acknowledge one's defeat; 《米》 《俗》 cry [say] uncle.

●参ったか. Do you give up?

・参った, 俺の負けだ. I'm beaten [I give up]; you win.

・「王手!」「参りました」 “Check!”―“You win.”

5 〔心を奪われる〕 become struck by 《a girl's charm》; become captivated [smitten, much taken] by 《a woman's beauty》; become taken [infatuated] with 《a girl》; fall for 《a girl》; 《俗》 be gone [stuck] on 《a girl》.

●彼女にかなり[すっかり]参っているようだ. He seems to be pretty [completely] taken with [《俗》 gone on] her.

・彼女の美しさに彼は一目で参ってしまった. He was captivated by her beauty at first sight.

・彼にかかるとどんな女もころりと参ってしまった. Every woman who met him became immediately captivated by him.
